Is fiberglass rebar cheaper than steel? FRP costs about 15% to 25% more than steel and cannot be bent in the field. Part of the extra money spent on FRP can be recouped with less labor because they are lighter and, because of their strength, require less rebar. Another option is hot-dip galvanized rebar, especially for salt-exposed areas.
